Corey Purdie

Founder & President

Corey, himself an ex-offender, devotes his life to helping others who have been incarcerated, ex-military, or unemployed to readjust to today’s society through faith based education and mentorship. Corey has years of experience with ex-offenders both through employing felons at Miracle Wash of New Bern, LLC since 2007 and assisting ex-offenders to begin their own businesses, as well as mentoring and ministering to inmates in NCDOC since 2005.

Mary Martin

Director of Education / Secretary

Mary has had a 30-year career in Merchandising and Product Development in both the Clothing and Fine Jewelry Industry. Twelve years ago Mary and her husband Herb both felt called to become Certified Christian Counselors serving individuals and married couples. After retiring to New Bern in 2010 they found Temple Baptist Church as their home base for their Counseling Ministry in which today has expanded to include Wash Away Unemployment.

Herb Martin

Director of Operations / Marketing

For 38 years Herb has worked in the Fine Jewelry Industry in both retail merchandising and in product Manufacturing and Sales and Marketing including both US and International markets. For the last fifteen years Herb and his wife Mary have served the community as Certified Christian Counselors and both are currently counseling for Temple Baptist Church and Wash Away Unemployment.

Alice Johnson


Alice has spent the majority of her lifetime working and serving in a financial capacity as a CPA and/or Treasurer. She has volunteered for numerous non-profit organizations as either a board member or acting Treasurer. She and her husband, Gary, have a heart for helping others in need and we are truly blessed to have her financial talents here at Wash Away Unemployment.
